1. Gaza: Famine Officially Declared — Over 60,000 Dead

A famine is now officially underway in Gaza, according to a report released by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a UN-backed global food monitoring body.

🔴 What’s Happening:

  • The famine is man-made, caused by war, blockades, destroyed infrastructure, and severely restricted humanitarian aid.

  • The IPC reports that half of Gaza's population (about 1.1 million people) is facing catastrophic levels of hunger (Phase 5 — Famine).

  • Since October 2023, over 60,000 people have reportedly died from hunger-related causes.

  • Children are especially vulnerable, with many already suffering from malnutrition, dehydration, and disease due to unsanitary conditions.

🔊 Global Reaction:

  • Aid agencies like the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, and UNICEF have described the situation as "unprecedented and horrific."

  • The UN is calling for a ceasefire and the immediate opening of humanitarian corridors to deliver food, water, and medical supplies.

  • However, political tensions and blockades are preventing full-scale relief.

🇷🇺🇺🇦 2. Russia Kills 22 in Overnight Strikes; Ukraine Responds

In one of the deadliest nights in recent weeks, Russia launched dozens of air strikes across Ukraine using missiles, drones, and artillery.

📍 Key Incidents:

  • A prison in Zaporizhzhia was hit, killing 17 inmates and injuring guards and staff.

  • Bombings also struck residential buildings, schools, and power infrastructure in cities like Kharkiv and Dnipro.

  • In total, 22 civilians were confirmed dead, and over 85 wounded.

🇺🇦 Ukraine’s Response:

  • President Zelenskyy condemned the strikes as “deliberate war crimes” and renewed his appeal to the West for more air defense systems.

  • Ukraine passed a law allowing citizens aged 60+ to volunteer for non-combat military support roles, like logistics and surveillance.

  • The move signals that Ukraine’s defense system is stretched thin after nearly 3 years of full-scale war.

🕊️ 3. UN Peace Conference on Gaza — Hope for a New Start?

A two-day peace summit took place at the United Nations in New York, bringing together diplomats from the U.S., EU, Arab League, and UN observers to address the Israel–Gaza crisis.

🗣️ Key Goals:

  1. Hostage Negotiations — Secure the release of remaining Israeli and foreign hostages held by Hamas.

  2. Disarmament — Develop a long-term plan to disarm militant groups in Gaza.

  3. Gaza Reconstruction — Begin discussions on international funding to rebuild infrastructure and homes.

  4. Palestinian Reform — Create a technocratic transitional government in Gaza to replace Hamas.

  5. Recognition of Statehood — Encourage UN member states to recognize Palestine as a sovereign state with defined borders.

🔮 What’s Next:

  • France, Spain, Ireland, and several other EU countries are reportedly ready to recognize Palestine within the coming weeks, depending on Hamas’s disarmament.

  • The U.S. and Arab nations are working on a joint resolution to present to the Security Council.

📊 4. World Markets Climb, But IMF Warns of Trouble

While global stock markets are booming, experts warn the prosperity may be short-lived.

📈 What’s Driving the Market Surge:

  • The S&P 500, Nasdaq, and FTSE 100 are hitting record highs, boosted by:

    • Strong quarterly earnings from major tech firms

    • AI-related investments

    • A new U.S.–EU trade deal that imposes 15% tariffs on certain Chinese imports

🟡 IMF’s Warning:

  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF) released a report saying that rising global tariffs, especially in the U.S. and Europe, could lead to:

    • Slower global trade

    • Higher consumer prices

    • More inflation in poor countries

They caution that while Wall Street is booming, inequality and food prices are worsening in parts of Africa and South Asia.

🌠 5. Twin Meteor Showers & Tiger Conservation Day

🌌 Meteor Showers:

  • Tonight, the skies will light up with two meteor showers:

    • Southern Delta Aquariids

    • Alpha Capricornids

  • Skywatchers could see up to 25 meteors per hour.

  • Best viewing is after midnight, in dark, clear skies away from city lights.

  • This is a rare double-peak event, which won’t happen again for several years.

🐯 International Tiger Day:

  • Celebrated every July 29, this day promotes awareness and action to protect wild tigers.

  • India, home to over 70% of the world’s wild tigers, announced it has doubled its tiger population since 2010.

  • However, tigers remain endangered due to:

    • Poaching

    • Deforestation

    • Climate change

Conservationists are urging governments and the public to support habitat protection and anti-poaching efforts.
